Puma Bitumen

Passionate about roads that perform

Our Australian bitumen operations began in 2013 when we acquired the Caltex Bitumen business. In August 2015, we expanded our Australian portfolio further with the acquisition of BP Bitumen, making us one of the largest bitumen suppliers in the country.

We are here to inject new energy into the road construction industry. Our team is passionate about what they do and we are committed to bringing our customers industry-leading bitumen products and services that will help build roads that perform now, and in the future.

What does the BP Bitumen acquisition mean?

Acquiring the BP Bitumen business has made a considerable impact on Puma Energy's capabilities in the sector. In addition to our existing Sydney operations, we now own and operate former BP sites in Brisbane, Townsville, Altona and Hobart, supplying customers with the same products and services they have grown to know and trust from BP.

In addition to bitumen infrastructure, Puma Energy has also inherited BP's industry-leading proprietary bitumen products and 35 employees who will continue to be the face of the business for our customers. All bitumen operations will continue as normal, with the only immediate change being the rebranding of the business to Puma Bitumen.

BP will continue to supply Puma Energy with bitumen from its Kwinana refinery until Puma's new WA fuel and bitumen terminal replaces it in 2017.

Essentially, we are the same team with the same superior products, now operating with a renewed passion and purpose and a new name.

What does this mean for the BP staff and customers?

We are committed to a smooth transition for existing bitumen customers and will ensure they have access to the same team and the same products they have grown to trust and respect. All BP employees have been welcomed to the Puma Bitumen team, and all customers will continue to receive the bitumen products they need, on time and on specification.

In addition to this, we will also focus on adding value for our customers by bringing new capabilities and new opportunities to the table.

Our plans are to first consolidate and then grow the business. Long-term, we will be looking to continue expanding our footprint in the bitumen market by building new fuel and bitumen terminals, investigating future capital investment into polymer products and enhancing the Bulwer facility in Brisbane. We will keep our staff, customers and industry updated on our plans, so watch this space for news.
